Jane was not alone in breaking the mould of the traditional "wife and mother" role to fight for what she believed was right. Below are just a few of the courageous women who pushed for changes that still have an effect on our life today.

Betty Friedan

During a school reunion, Betty interviews her girlfriends and finds that many of them are deeply unhappy. Betty attributes this unhappiness to the myth of the "feminine mystique". Women are suffocated by a life they are supposedly meant for.

Gloria Steinem

Gloria became famous for publishing an undercover expose on the New York Playboy Club. Unveiling the poor working conditions the "bunnies" were enduring cost Gloria her career, as after the article was pulished Gloria found it hard to get work.

Judith Bernstein

Judith is famous for her daring work on male vulnerability and the objectification of the male body, inspired by her time at Yale where the status quo was "male professors only". Once banned from galleries and museums, Judith's work hit a raw nerve with the Sixties male-dominated society.

Odetta Holmes

This inspirational woman was a singer, songwriter, actress and a civil rights activist. Odetta used, who the power of music to share her message, performed for the Civil Rights Movement during many political rallies and demonstrations. Her music also inspired many great artists like Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Mavis Staples and Janis Joplin.
